Cavitex asks TRB to approve toll hike

Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. said it will file a petition this month with the Toll Regulatory Board to increase the toll at Manila-Cavite Expressway to recover its investment for road enhancement.

“The construction is already completed, but there is a certification that needs to be signed.  It is called the certificate of substantial completion. So, once it was signed by the independent consultant, then we will have to file a petition to TRB,” Cavitex president and chief executive Luigi Bautista said.

Bautista said the operator of the expressway would file a petition for an additional toll of  P0.20 per kilometer, or a total of P1.40 for the 7-kilometer road enhancement of Cavitex.

The company completed the P800-million first phase of the road enhancement project and opened two of the four lanes of the southbound flyover of Cavitex in August.

The first phase covers the road widening from Manila International Airport Road to Zapote and the southbound flyover on the intersection of Pacific Ave.

The southbound flyover aims to improve traffic management at the intersection of Pacific Drive and Cavitex, which was managed via a stop-and-go signaling system before the flyover opened.

Cavitex allocated P300 million for phase 2 of the enhancements.

Phase 2  covers widening of three bridges in Wawa, Las Piñas and Parañaque, with construction targeted to begin in September and to be completed by second quarter of 2019.

The road widening will increase road capacity by 25 percent, which is now hitting a daily traffic of 145,000 vehicles.

Cavitex is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., which also operates the North Luzon Expressway and the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway.
