Zamboanga City—The “ZamPen” native chicken dishes took center stage during a two-day Farmers Science and Technology Agenda event here hosted by the Western Mindanao Agriculture and Aquatic Resources Research and Development Consortium.

Four popular restaurants and hotels in this city competed in the much-awaited “Cucina a la ZamPen Native Chicken” contest held at Western Mindanao State University.

Marcian Garden Hotel emerged the winner with its Native Organic Chicken with Sibul and Panera Soup dish. Second place went to Barcode Restaurant with its Chicken Diadaran.

Consolation prizes for the contest using Zamboanga Peninsula chicken went to Garden Orchid Hotel for its Pollo Ala Espanola, and LM Metro Hotel for its Jori-Jori Native Chicken Stew.

Native chicken like ZamPen is tasty because of the concentration of free amino acids, said Dr. Synan Baguio, officer in charge of the Philippine Council for Agriculture Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development’s Livestock Research Division.
