Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., the official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the country, said Tuesday vehicles sales in the first six months of 2018 declined 8 percent to 15,957 units from 17,366 units year-on-year.

Hari president and chief executive officer Maria Fe Perez-Agudo said the automotive sector was having a hard time keeping sales up due to a number of factors that included the effect of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law.

“Hyundai’s 1st-semester sales remain consistent with the trend in the industry. Nonetheless, we are confident that we can continue to respond to these challenges and certainly delight our consumers with our improved array of products and services as we are expecting the greater potential for the rest of the year,” she said.

Hyundai passenger car sales dipped 10 percent to 10,838 units in the first half of 2018 from 12,039 units on the year, while those of commercial car sales fell 3.9 percent to 15,957 units from 17,366 units.
