Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya—Organic wastes within the Lower Magat Eco-Tourism Park here are turned into natural fertilizers and sold for additional income.

Nequita Castro, LMETP head, said the new income-generating project has been introduced because of the many natural and organic waste being collected inside the park in barangay San Luis here.

“These are organic food left-overs and bio-degradable materials within the LMETP which can be converted into natural and organic fertilizers for sale,” she said.

Castro said they have partnered with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office for the establishment of the project.

She said PENRO provided vermi-composting facilities including technology training for the LMETP personnel to fully operationalize the project.

“Some of the produced fertilizers will be used for fruit trees and vegetable plants to increase their yield and to attract more birds which can help in rejuvenating the place,” Castro said.

According to Castro, the vermin-composting production will also be sold outside the park at P200.00 per sack.

In this way, Castro said they can already produce their own fertilizer while earning from the sales that can be derived from the production of at least 50 sacks in 45 days.

“We can further increase the income of LMETP with this project including the proposed additional charges and fees from visitors who use the LMETP facilities,” she said.

The LMETP is one of the investment projects of the provincial government here aside from the Capissaan Cave System in barangay Capissaan in Kasibu town.
