Marsh seeks gag order vs Prudential

Marsh Philippines Inc. formally asked the Insurance Commission to issue a gag order preventing any more media coverage about the IC’s ongoing investigation on the insurance broker’s operations in the Philippines.

Marsh in an eight-page motion complained about the press statements of Prudential Guarantee and Assurance Inc. and “the publication of several print and online articles regarding the controversy between PGA and Marsh.”

Marsh said such statements may “prejudge the issue, influence the Honorable Commission, or obstruct the administration of justice in relation to the pending case.”

PGA late last year filed a complaint questioning the practice of Marsh using “fronting insurers” to solicit business in the Philippines. Marsh did not deny the charge, telling the IC that its fronting insurers would only be paid a nominal fee by prospective clients, while Marsh would be paid a fee commensurate to covering the insurance risk.
