The city government of Makati on Tuesday named this year’s Ten Outstanding Students of Makati, who all received plaques of recognition, medallions, and checks worth P15,000 each.
John Robbie Laurio of Makati Science High School topped the list of awardees with a total of 92.04 points.
The other awardees were Ellian Fitzgerald Marquez, also of Makati Science High School; Julius Miguel Tizon of St. Paul College of Makati; Reiven Espinoza of Pitogo High School; Ma. Alexa Satur of St. Paul College of Makati; Dan Alden Baterisna, Colegio San Agustin; Nelson Gabriel Cortez, Colegio San Agustin; Vincent Raul Oliveros, San Antonio National High School; Sophia Ricci Ellorda, Pitogo High School; and Princess Olarte, Fort Bonifacio High School.
Mayor Abigail Binay led the recognition of this year’s outstanding students in an awarding ceremony held at the Session Hall of Makati City Hall Building 1 on Monday. She congratulated the awardees and thanked them for exemplifying the virtues of a good student, child and citizen.
“Congratulations to our TOSM awardees this year. Your discipline, leadership, and extraordinary excellence in your studies made you stand out among the rest. Thank you for reciprocating the support of your family and the city,” Binay said.
She also encouraged the awardees to serve as “positive influencers” for their fellow youth, helping them to unravel their innate strengths and achieve their full potential.
Makati Education Department head Norma Tumambing said that nominees for the award underwent Eligibility Screening conducted by the search secretariat, which reviewed all the entries for nomination based on the prescribed criteria and documentary requirements.
Eligible nominees then took the Academic Excellence Test at the University of Makati last Feb. 15.
The First Level of Screening was conducted after the test to determine the top 15 finalists of the search. The Board of Judges then reviewed and evaluated the documents submitted for the finalists.
On March 9, the finalists underwent a panel interview and did a talent presentation before the Board of Judges.
TOSM, now on its 42nd year, is a city-sponsored annual search open to junior high school (Grade 10) students, from public and private schools in Makati. It aims to recognize the outstanding academic performance and leadership traits of students in their respective schools and communities.
To qualify, a nominee should be a consistent achiever (among the top three in class), with good moral character, and attending the same school for four years. A nominee must also have good leadership skills, and outstanding achievements in school, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
