The Energy Department granted SunRay Power Inc., an affiliate of listed MRC Allied Inc., a solar service contract to develop the 100-megawatt Clark Solar Project in Capas and Bamban, Tarlac province.

The Clark Solar Project, estimated to cost P8.5 billion, is located within a 256-hectare property leased by SPI from state-run Bases Conversion Development Authority.

“We are excited to do this solar project in partnership with BCDA and we are looking at doing more projects with them as part of our long-term plans. The success of this project would be another proof that the private sector and the government can actually work hand in hand towards achieving a common goal-the creation of cleaner, greener, more sustainable communities,” SPI president and chief executive Carlos Gatmaitan said.

SPI is one of the energy projects being developed by MRC Allied, which holds a diversified portfolio in property development and mining exploration.

MRC Allied announced its target to develop at least 1,000 MW of power generation capacity by 2022.

MRC Allied and UniSolar Inc.  signed an engineering, procurement and construction  contract for a 4-MW solar rooftop project with Xentro Mall Developer Inc. in February.

MRC Allied engaged the services of UniSolar to provide the design, supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of a solar PV system for rooftop within various Xentro malls nationwide.

UniSolar is a domestic corporation engaged in the design, global sourcing, local distribution, manufacturing, sales of solar-powered products and the operation and maintenance of solar rooftop systems.

XRC is a domestic corporation engaged in the operation of community malls nationwide.

MRC Allied will pay UniSolar at least P200 million for the installation of the initial target capacity of at least 4MW. Construction period is set at a maximum of 6 months from issuance of notice to proceed by MRC to UniSolar.

The company said it would also bring the company closer to its goal of developing at least 200 MW of clean and renewable energy each year over the next five years.
