Fake justice? Opposition senator seeks DoJ chief’s ouster

CALLS for Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II to resign mounted Monday as public anger simmered over his decision to place alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles under the government’s Witness Protection Program.

Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros described Aguirre as “a reliable friend of criminal masterminds, extrajudicial killers and drug lords,” and called for his resignation.

Hontiveros accused Aguirre of having transformed the Department of Justice into his personal kitchen.

“He has been cooking there fake news and fake cases against the opposition. He has also been cooking there the acquittal of murderers, big-time plunderer and drug peddler,” she said, referring to a recent Justice department decision to dismiss anchors Deo Macalma and Cherryl Adami that “he [Bong Go] enjoys so, you know, the trust and confidence, he has the full blanket authority from the President.”

CHAFFING CALL. Members of the Akbayan party-list group wearing evocative wigs call Monday for the resignation of Secretarty of Justice Vitaliano Aguirre II, President Rodrigo Duterte’s law classmate at San Beda College, from his post. But Aguirre called his critics ‘ignorant’ for calling for his resignation and accusing him of bungling the complaint which led to the dismissal of the drug case against businessman Peter Lim, self-confessed drug distributor Kerwin Espinosa, convicted drug lord Peter Co, and several others. However, the PCOO said there was a mistake in sending the title of the transcription, which read as “The transcription titled ‘Interview with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’ by Deo Macalma and Rica Herrera over dzRH on March 19, 2018 should read ‘Interview with Impersonator of President Rodrigo R. Duterte’”.

In the interview, Go said he was glad the President called the radio station and thanked the “President” for his support.

PCOO observed that Go was really looking forward to run in the 2019 elections as he allowed himself to use a “fake boss” to endorse him openly over radio interviews.

Supporters of Go officially launched in Intramuros, Manila a movement encouraging him to stand in the 2019 elections.

The campaign, dubbed “Ready, Set, Go!” is not a launch of Go’s candidacy but a campaign for him to join the senatorial race next year, according to PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar.
