Manila plans to hold an employers’ forum where accredited companies that employed the most number of applicants from past years’ job fairs will be recognized by the city government, Mayor Joseph Estrada said Sunday.

“If given the chance, I would be very happy to give every unemployed Manila resident the assistance to have a job,” Estrada said.

The mayor was referring to the recent job fairs conducted by Employment Regeneration Assistance Program and Public Employment Service Office Manila that accommodates employment for job seekers in the city.

On Feb. 21, the Erap-Peso Manila Job Caravan held in city hall invited 15 employers who offered various employment opportunities to hundreds of job applicants.

According to Eileen C. Galang, officer-in-charge-Senior Labor and Employment Officer, PESO Manila, a total of 180 job seekers registered for the event. Over half or 60.55 percent of them were women.

“Sixty applicants were hired on the spot, 32 males and 28 females,” said Galang.

The companies that participated in the job fair were 7-Star Man Power Service of the Philippines; Acabar Marketing International, Inc.; Ace Promotion and Marketing Corp.; Asiawide Human Resources & Consultancy Corp.; Clean Car Global Phils. Inc.; Fieldmen Janitorial Services Corp.; Guaranteed Marketing Services Inc.;

Fineco Management Corp.; Hardworkers Manpower Services Inc.; Mirof Resources Inc.; Philippine Survey & Research Center Inc.; Reliable Work Force & General Services Inc.; Smartjob Management & Employment Services; StarBoard Manpower Services Inc.; and TopServe Service Solutions Inc.

“When a family member gets a job, the whole family is overjoyed. Providing job assistance to the jobless is a passion,” said Estrada.

Galang said PESO Manila assisted 121 applicants for resume photocopying services during the February job caravan.

PESO Manila also helps job seekers on how to accomplish a good resume and advises applicants on how to conduct themselves during job interviews, she added.

With decent, guaranteed, and sustainable sources of income, Estrada said city residents will not only help themselves and their families meet their basic needs, but also contribute to reducing poverty and criminality in the city.

“If one has a job, she or he feels secure and confident, that person will be happy and won’t resort to unpleasant work,” the mayor said. “If a lot more have decent jobs, the city’s problems would be reduced.”
