NEW technologies and the internet are still constantly re-shaping the education landscape and are being integrated in the standard of learning.

As they are widely used, educators are now faced with the challenge of adapting a new way of teaching and catching up with their students who are digital natives.

This year, Acer Academy’s exclusive client program upgrades its annual Members’ Night by including in the celebration a learning-rich forum focusing on online education and digital citizenship.

Together with 110 partner schools nationwide, Acer Academy on its fifth year furthers their united advocacy of helping modernize both private and public educational institutions.

“Technology and the internet empower education,” said Manuel Wong, Managing Director of Acer Philippines. “But powerful tools can do both good and harm, and it’s our responsibility to stay vigilant to protect the students’ welfare online.”

With the theme of keeping students safe in a digital world, Acer Academy’s forum invited speakers from the IT industry and education sector to share key insights on data privacy and education modernization.

More than half of the current population has connection to the internet. According to the latest Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality Study those who are aged 15-24 represent the biggest consumers of information technology with college students frequenting internet use for studies in the past few years.

With the emergence of online education, Acer saw the opportunity to impart to its partner schools learnings and practices they can adapt to continually provide their students with a 21st century education.

“Acer leads the efforts to equip our teachers with better ways in providing quality education to our youth—both through knowledge and devices, “ said Wong.

The Acer Academy has been running since 2012 as an innovative program to help educators adapt better solutions in communicating and interacting with their students who are mostly digital natives. Any school, college, or university whether public or private can join the program.

Through the program, partner schools can utilize the IT company’s hardware, software, and services to promote a digital classroom framework.

“Our thrust as an IT company has always been to break barriers between humans and technology,” Wong said. “Through our efforts with Acer Academy, we are unlocking new possibilities for our educators through the infusion of Acer’s suite of solutions.”

Since its conception, Acer Academy hosts annual Membership Nights that gathers their partner schools to introduce new members and recognize loyal members.

This year, Kevin Chuang of Acer Asia Pacific will be joined by Abram Abanil, incoming director for the ICTS of the Department of Education; Dr. Rolando Lansigan of the National Privacy Commission, David Tapang of Microsoft Philippines and, Ana Ortiz of Woohoo Learning Lab.

“We aim for digital and online-based education platforms to stay beneficial to the new generation of students,” Wong said. “Through Acer Academy, we are hopeful not just for the future of the education system but also our students who are the future of this nation.”
