Furla’s Men’s Collection Spring/ Summer 2018

Venice. The magical city glistening on the surface of its channels where 1,500 years of history are reflected on the waters of the lagoon is a city built on water that seems to float in the air: air and water, the dual soul of Venice made whole by its light—the mysterious light of the murky, long months of winter that turns dazzling, joyful, shimmering in summer. The only thing more striking, to the observer’s eyes, than the light of Venice is its history—its glorious past projected into its thrilling future.

Furla’s Spring/Summer 2018 Men’s Collection pays tribute to Venice’s artistic heritage, the city as showcase of the monuments of its glorious past and of today’s contemporary art scene—the ancient history of the Serenissima, and the contemporary dreams of the Biennale. This journey–from ancient city to reference of the contemporary art world—lies at the heart of the Spring/Summer 2018 Men’s Collection: a collection conceived, with a very Italian kind of lightness, between a stroll through the calli and a gondola ride through the canals.

In Murano, glassmakers flaunt their wares, the murine—the colored patterns inside long rods of glass cut in cross-sections—shimmering in a rainbow of colors. The handsome gondolieri strut in their beautifully made striped jerseys. An impossible city dreamed on the surface of the waters, a unique city that constantly changes like the vegetation in the barene—the shoals that emerge from the lagoon in the low tides, then disappear when the water rises again.

Patterns and colors from floors and mosaics—from the subtle magic of Palazzo Fortuny to the glory of the Palazzo Ducale—are the inspiration for the patchwork decoration of the Furla ‘Marte’ handbag.

The inlays of Venetian furniture—the geometric patterns, the colors as if on an artist’s palette— inspire the marquetry designs on the Furla ‘Zeus’ handbag.

Venetian tapestries are the starting point for the inspiration of the Furla ‘Atlante’ handbag: a bestiary—a compendium of mythological creatures and fantastic animals—over geometric designs that reference St. Mark’s mosaics.

Ulysses, the lead character of Homer’s Odyssey, master of disguises, in this playful collection chooses for himself a gondoliere’s uniform: the shape-shifting Furla Ulisse backpack can become different characters—the gondoliere and the sailor, the lifeguard and the regatta boat’s skipper. Lucky charms like teddy bears dressed up as sailors, gondolieri, and lifeguards and small leather goods decorate the backpacks.

Furla Ulisse backpacks, always changing, try on different skins with patchwork motifs: aquatic animals and lagoons, and bright geometric patterns.

Removable waterproof lining pads, rubberized details, 3D fabrics, and waterproof zippers are the defining characteristics of the sporty, functional Furla ‘Marina’ bag: beautifully printed neoprene for active leisure.

The quiet, dignified elegance of Riva yachts and motorboats are the point of reference for the Furla ‘Icaro’ handbag: wood and navy blue, navy at the heart of this special, masculine bag.
