James Reid the photographer

James Reid is known as an actor, a singer, and an endorser. But for many netizens, the 24-year-old Fil-Aussie is also an Instagram #feedgoals inspiration.

His beautifully curated social media feed is made of nostalgia-inducing images laid out in various creative fashion: there are sets in black and white, multiple photos arranged scrapbook-style, and multiple images that make up one large photograph, among others.

The MTV EMA 2017 winner reveals he spends a great amount of time curating his feed and checks his Instagram account at least once every hour.

James has an eye for style in curating as he has in taking those photographs. But despite the admiration for his works on the social media platform, he admits he never had a formal training in photography.

“I just learned online. And from all the instructions I read, [I found that] the best way to learn is to really take time to study; just go through every mode and test out every setting,” he shares.

The budding photographer hones his skill by taking photos of his favorite subject—his girlfriend Nadine Lustre. In fact, James reveals, there were instances he’d be in odd positions just to get a really good shot of his lady love.

When it comes to portrait photography, James says he has become fond of capturing candid images. “I like capturing moods; catching those moments when they’re not posing.”

Aside from photographing Nadine and other people, James also loves to take stunning landscape shots whenever he travels, so much so that he hates missing a chance to capture a beautiful moment using a good quality camera.

“Whenever I forget my camera when I travel out of town and see a really good view, I always wish that I brought my camera [to take good quality photos],” he relates.

BEHIND THE CAMERA. James Reid is now armed with Fujifilm's latest X-E3 mirrorless camera as he embarks on his photography pursuits–focused mostly on capturing stunning sceneries and dreamy images of his lady love, Nadine Lustre.

But James leaves the heavy and bulky camera behind and opts for the compact and lightweight Fujifilm X-E3 when he’s out exploring.

This new rangefinder style, mirrorless, and ultra-compact camera utilizes the latest X-Trans CMOS III sensor and powerful X-Processor Pro for best in-class color reproduction in both stills and 4K movies, which means the X-E3 camera draws out the subject’s color fast and accurately when shot; thus, creating an outstanding image quality.

James also finds its user-friendly touchscreen feature very impressive.

“The biggest thing I’ve noticed is the fact that there’s no D-Pad. This is a step towards the future of cameras. It’s all touchscreen now. It has less buttons, less confusing. It’s more intuitive, just swipe up and up,” he says.

And since this latest release from Fujifilm has a built-in Bluetooth technology, James recommends it to photographers and hobbyists who, like him, want to seamlessly upload photos directly to their mobile devices.

On top of it all, James says X-E3’s retro design fits his aesthetic. “I love the vintage look.”

The Fujifilm X-E3 camera is available in silver and black, and is priced at P50,900, body only;  P64,990, with 23mm kit; P72,990, with 18-55mm kit. Fujifilm products are sold at authorized dealers nationwide.
