IT WAS a day to remember for fans and players alike as the Premier Volleyball League marked the end of its inaugural season on Oct. 29 with a successful All-Star Sunday that saw Team Vhyl and Team Roger win in the Men’s and Women’s matches, respectively.

Coach Vhyl Verayo led the Yellow team to win over coach Oliver Almadro’s Blue team, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-9 behind a balanced attack led by Fauzi Ismail’s 14 points. Four others scored in double figures for Yellow, while Marck Espejo and Mark Alfafara led Blue with 16 and 10.

Members of the Red Team, coached by Roger Gorayeb, display their awards.

Meanwhile, coach Roger Gorayeb’s Team Red prevented a Team White comeback when they ended the women’s match in four sets 25-21, 25-22, 13-25, 25-21. Riding on the herculean efforts of Diana Carlos who finished with 15 points, Gorayeb’s squad held off the rampage of coach Rico De Guzman’s wards led by Nicole Tiamzon with 14 points.

The event, held at the San Juan Arena and streamed on premiervolleyballlegue.com, with the women’s match airing live on S+A and S+A HD, was for the benefit of the Hero Foundation.

The fans, who supported the league for three years, were treated to a meet and greet with their volleyball idols. Participants from S+A’s Heroes Camp Volleyball Clinic, which has gone to six barangays to teach and inspire budding Filipino athletes volleyball fundamentals and positive values, were also present to cheer for and meet their volleyball idols.
