BoI approves P78-m poultry expansion

The Board of Investments approved the P78.3-million project of 557 Feather Meal Corp as an expanding producer of poultry dressing with cold storage facility and an P8.7-million cashew production under the 2017 Investment Priorities Plan of the Board of Investments.

The poultry dressing project qualified for incentives under the preferred activities category under the Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry Listing while the cashew project received the nod under the export activities category. 

“This expansion will address the chicken meat requirements of Central Luzon considering its growing demand,” said Trade Undersecretary and BoI managing head Ceferino Rodolfo said. 

The company began commercial operations in June 2017 with an additional 460 personnel on board in the additional facilities for poultry dressing with processing plant and cold storage services to its existing plant in Concepcion, Tarlac. 

The expansion will increase the plant’s capacity to process up to 12.48 million birds annually, in addition to a registered capacity of 19.9 million a year or an increase of 63 percent.

The facility exclusively serves the poultry dressing and further processing requirements of San Miguel Foods Inc..

Live birds from the poultry contractors of SMFI in Tarlac and nearby provinces are delivered to the facility for processing. 

In the wake of the bird flu outbreak in Pampanga and Nueva Ecija, San Miguel Pure Foods Company Inc. said its Magnolia chicken brand were safe for public consumption. SMFI is a subsidiary of SMPFC, the food division of conglomerate San Miguel Corp.  

SMFI farms and its entire broiler flocks recently tested negative for the avian influenza.  

Meanwhile, R-Ley Trading is expanding its cashew processing and export business by acquiring automatic processing machines from Vietnam.
