Free the Puppies, Feed the Puppies

Four beautiful ladies had one brilliant idea. They talked about it, tossed it in their minds for a few days, sat down and talked about it some more, and voila, Free the Puppies was born!

Free the Puppies was a night of music and comedy hosted by Portia Carlos, Katt Torres, Sid Buan and Pam Santiago last Sept. 23 at the Handlebar Bar and Grill to raise funds for rescued dogs and cats of two animal welfare groups.

The two groups are Save Animals of Love and Light (Save ALL) and Dogs Mountain.

The four lovely ladies said they created Free the Puppies, Feed the Puppies  to support two causes they are very passionate about: women's rights and  animal welfare.

They added, "These two passions were combined by making an event called 'Free the Puppies.'  It is a braless event to make people more aware of the ridiculousness of stare downs and cat-calling that women have to go through for going braless. Be it for supposed health reasons, fashion, or just plain comfiness—women are forced to cage their puppies. We wanted to create a night and environment to empower women to feel comfortable and confident and possibly educate some people who do cat-call or stare at girls and take that security away from women."

"We then added our love for animals to the picture by turning this event into a charity for animals. ‘Free the Puppies’ to ‘Feed the Puppies’!" they  said.

Thanks to  comedians Angus Little from Stomp and  Mike Unson, a special performance from Burlesque PH, bands like  Wilderness, REKLAMO, Mad Love Misery, Quibs, Sleep Kitchen,  and  artworks by tattoo artist  Dennese Delaney,  the ladies were able to raise sufficient funds to bring food for rescued animals to the Dogs Mountain sanctuary in Naguillan, La Union and  the Save ALL  care home in Quezon City last Saturday.

"We took a trip to Save ALL and got to bond with the rescues. It is hard to imagine that these happy dogs and cats were once sickly, scruffy-looking, and even catatonic because of so much abuse and neglect. They used to be very wary of humans. The two puppies we were carrying were kissing bandits!" said Sid who  went to the  care home with Portia.

Sid added, "To say we admire the commitment to give these rescues a happy home is an understatement. Thank you so much for all that you do, Save ALL admin. "

Kat, who went to  Dogs Mountain with Pam, said, "We made it up to Dogs Mountain and it was a really inspiring and heart warming little adventure. The people of Dogs Mountain are really doing an amazing thing. We saw how much work and passion they put in to take care of all these animals. The dogs come first is how they put it."

"We were able to bring 7 sacks of dog food this trip. But being there just made us realize how much help they really need. We are excited to do more for the puppies in the future!" she said.

I, too, am amazed at you, ladies..  You are not just beautiful and  intelligent.  You each shine  brighter  because of your compassion and kind heart  for animals!  Take a bow, ladies. May there be more like you!

Namaste!
