BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—Preparations are now being done for the Indigenous Peoples Month in November.

Former governor Ruth Padilla, indigenous peoples’ consultant of the provincial government, said they are conducting meetings with the IP Council of various tribes of the province.

“This year’s celebration will be two days full of poetic debates, songs and dances that depict rituals and ceremonies of various tribes,” she said.

Padilla said five tribes—the Ifugaos, Igorots, Bugkalots, Isinais, and Gaddangs—have signified their intention to participate in the IP Month activities.

The cultural and traditional shows will also be augmented by the recipients of the series of IP Summer Workshops for young IPs.

“Presentations will be specified per IP group to avoid repetition and give the audience the idea of a proper way to do a particular dance or song, which is the objective of the said IP Summer Workshop,” she said.

The celebration will be on November 9 to 10 at the Indigenous Peoples Education and Development  Center in Bagabag town.

The IP month celebration is part of the “Prayers N’ Faith” program of governance, which started during the administration of Padilla and is being continued by her husband, Gov. Carlos Padilla.
