SUBIC, Zambales—More stakeholders of the long-delayed power project in Zambales have pushed for the approval of Redondo Peninsula Energy Inc.’s power supply agreement with the government.

The Barangay Balaybay government and the Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council of Subic submitted letters of support for the project to the Energy Regulatory Commission.

RP Energy’s PSA, which was submitted in April 2016, is a crucial document needed before the company proceeds with the construction of its 2×300 megawatt coal-fired power plant in Subic.

During a regular session of the Barangay Balaybay Council on Sept. 3, Barangay Chairman Arturo P. Manzano and the seven Sangguniang Barangay Members signed Resolution No. 09 expressing support to RP Energy in seeking the urgent approval of its PSA.

According to the resolution, RP Energy will construct a 23-kilometer transmission line, and part of that facility are nine towers that will be built on Barangay Balaybay.

“Even though the power plant has not been constructed yet, RP Energy is already helping the barangay in its various programs and projects,” according to the resolution, noting that “construction of the project will immensely help the barangay and its residents.”

In line with this, the barangay council “has decided to appeal to ERC to expedite the release of the PSA of RP Energy.”

The MFARMC, meanwhile, acknowledged that “RP Energy has been a constant partner and supporter of the Council” and two of its officers are members of the company’s Multipartite Monitoring Team.

“We humbly seek your generous support in the urgent approval of the said Power Supply Agreement as a form of support not only to RP Energy but to the fisherfolk community,” the letter signed by MFARMC Chairman Ronaldo P. Reyes read.

Earlier, other stakeholders of RP Energy’s project, like the Cawag Tribal Association and the local government of Barangay Cawag, have likewise expressed their support to the project and pushed for the PSA approval.
