Twenty entries were nominated for the Haligi ng Dangal People’s Choice Awards, handed out by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Launched in 2016, the Haligi ng Dangal Awards, an annual architecture competition, recognizes an outstanding work of architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, and urban planning built by licensed Filipino professionals within the last 10 years. It aims to exemplify the positive influence of conscious design on the environment. And that it could eventually complement the country’s cultural values and national identity.

Eduardo Calma, principal designer of Lor Calma Design Associates, Inc.

Among the nominees were the Museum of a History of Ideas at University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) in Manila, The Mind Museum at Bonifacio Global City, and The School of Design and Arts (SDA) Campus of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), all designed by Lor Calma Design Associates Inc., with Ed Calma as principal designer.

The SDA Campus is a contemporary building made of glass, steel, and concrete, it literally stands out in the Manila skyline. The use of huge glass walls has made the building energy efficient; during daytime, portions of the structure use natural light rather than electric-powered light. It has spacious corridors that address the problem of heat, and are used by students to study and review, and even as gallery spaces.
