PWU honors the Villars

Senator Cynthia A. Villar was the Commencement Speaker at the 94th Graduation Ceremony of the Philippine Women’s University at PICC on July 8. 

Senator Manny Villar received the Dean Conrado Benitez Heritage Award at the same ceremony in recognition of his generous contribution to PWU’s Business School which will set up the Manny Villar Institute of Entrepreneurship in his honor. 

PWU was founded in 1919 and was one of the first private schools to set up a Business Administration program in 1926. It was the first university for women founded by Asian women and is now a co-educational institution known for its innovations and diversity.

Dr. Francisco Benitez, PWU president, also announced Victorina Amalingan-Sales as the “Hiyas ng Pamantasan” awardeed during the commencement ceremonies. 

This is PWU’s highest award and is given to the most outstanding member of the PWU community.

Sales heads the S.C. Vizcarra group of companies and has been actively involved with PWU for over 50 years from her student days to the present.

This year’s Awards Committee was headed by Dr. Patricia Ma. Araneta, a member of PWU’s Board of Trustees. 

The graduation on July 8 was preceded by a Baccalaureate Ceremony on July 7 with over 850 graduates honoring their parents and teachers at the PWU’s historic Taft Avenue campus.
