Quezon City has announced the suspension of classes in all levels, both in public and private schools.

Quezon City is the last local government unit in Metro Manila to make the announcement.

Quezon City Risk Reduction and Management Council made the decision at 11:15 am.

Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte says, she was up as early as 4 am today but they decided against the early suspension of classes.

She explains, at dawn today, PAGASA advisory indicated that Quezon City would only have light to moderate rains.

Belmonte also notes, she was aware that PAGASA gave an advisory that there would be some thunderstorms in the morning.

She emphasizes, Quezon City is not joining the bandwagon in announcing class suspensions and they prefer to decide based on information from the weather bureau.

PAGASA agrees with Quezon City government when it said thunderstorms alone are not enough reason to suspend classes.

The weather bureau says, brief thunderstorms may happen in some portions but not in the entire area of a large city like Quezon City.

As early as Wednesday afternoon, some cities in Metro Manila had announced class suspensions due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical stom "Gorio."

Classes in all levels were suspended in Manila, Caloocan, Paranaque, Las Pinas, Muntinlupa, San Juan, Pasay, Navotas, Pateros, Malabon, Marikina and Mandaluyong.

Class suspensions were also announced in many schools in Bulacan, Zambales, Laguna, Pampanga, Bataan and Rizal.
