PBA Finals reaching boiling point

MAKE no mistake about it, there is no shortage of fireworks on and off the court in the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup finals.

San Miguel Beer is up 2-1 in its intense best-of-seven championship showdown with TNT KaTropa, but this hotly contested duel is far from over.

In fact, it’s only heating up.

Through three games, the Beermen and the Tropang Texters are showing everyone that there’s indeed no love lost between them after several heated confrontations and encounters already.

In third quarter of Game 2, TNT hotshot rookie Roger Pogoy hit SMB veteran Arwind Santos below the belt in a sneaky low blow that resulted to his ejection and to a P30,000 fine. That incurred the ire of the former league Most Valuable Player.

The physicality on the court was just the start.

As for last Sunday’s Game 3, a commotion took place between some team members of both teams during halftime.

Reportedly, TNT Governors’ Cup import Michael Craig and stand-by import Mike Myers got in a verbal tussle with several SMB players and team officials as they were all headed to their dugouts after the first 24 minutes.

Also, guards Chris Ross and Ryan Reyes also engaged in their own personal trash talking as well.

With things heating up, PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa was forced to meet with officials from both teams to keep things under control.

Still, don’t expect the temperature to lower as the series moves forward.

San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria acknowledges that the series is reaching its boiling point.

“Nagkaka-labasan na ng intensity ‘yung mga players to the point na medyo nagkakaroon na ng konting kaguluhan sa court,” he said. “We just have to stay focused lang and relax but also, we can’t back down din. Balance lang talaga for us.”
