Twenty-three suspected drug dealers, most of them operating in Taguig City, have been arrested during separate police operations to combat illegal drugs in southern Metro Manila.

The drug operations, involving police operatives from cities of Makati, Taguig, Pasay and Parañaque City, were made in cooperation with community members who gave the authorities valuable information about the illegal transaction of the suspects.

Police said residents had also witnessed drug transactions out in the open in the subject areas.

Supt. Jenny Tecson, spokesperson of the Southern Police District, said 13 persons were arrested during series of operations conducted in barangays Ususan, Lower Bicutan and Western Bicutan in Taguig City.

The suspects were Alvin Sibayan, 37; Rex Recto, 30; Regie Bautista, 27; Abraham Ludsiman, 40; Edward Baja, 30; Ely Torrendon Jr., 37; Norhan Akmad, 37; Edgar Allen Valles, 25; Fernando Reblando, 30; Huderi Joel Lumambas, 37; Rolando Espiritu, 34; Federico Belmonte, 50, and Allan Belmonte, 40.

In Pasay City, police arrested Jerry Pulvera, 33, and Annaliza Escauriaga, 47, during a buy bust operation on Dandan Street in Barangay 54 Zone 8 while those arrested in Paranaque were 26-year-old Nathaniel Vargas and Mark Anthony Barro, 23.

Police recovered from the suspects several plastic sachets containing methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia and marked money used in the drug bust.

All the suspects were slapped with violation of the Dangerous Drug Act.

Authorities believes that with continuous collaboration of police, barangay leaders, and members of the community, the illegal drug traders, pushers and users will be easily identified and appropriate police action will immediately be taken.

Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay lauded barangay officials and residents for helping the local government and the police in the campaign against illegal drugs in the city.

“Our policemen are capable but they are more efficient when residents and barangay leaders lend a helping hand especially in solving the problem and preventing the proliferation of drugs,” she said.

In Taguig City, Mayor Laarni Cayetano increased the allowance of policemen, especially those assigned in the frontline against crime, from P1,000 to P3,000 a month, to make the police a well-oiled machine.

Lawmakers said police should continue to pursue their normal anti-drug campaign against pushers and drug dens and increase their efforts in neutralizing big-time drug lords and drug syndicates operating in the country.

To bolster the government’s anti-drug campaign, they proposed additional support for lawmen in terms of funding, facilities, equipment and better training.
