Is there a better way to explore the country’s 7,100 islands  than experiencing it from the skies? FoilaFly, a division of Foilacar Industries is set to carve inroads in the local aviation market with its Aero Club.

The Aero Club conforms with Cirrus Standards and is currently undergoing a certification process required by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines for the club to legally operate domestic flights, company  officials said. With aircraft facilities in Manila, Bulacan and Clark manned by highly  trained personnel, FoilaFly is a Fight Training Center and provides aircraft rental/ownership for recreational pilots. With their corporate offices situated in the business hub of Pasig City along Brixton Street, Barrio Ugong, FoilaFly offers services similar to a full service Fixed-Base Operator Membership, which allows an individual to use the airplanes and facilities for recreational flying and flight training. Currently, the FoilaFly Aero Club fleet consists of four single engine Cirrus airplanes: two SR20’s and two SR22’s. “Our aim is to bring flying closer to a bigger spectrum of the target market. This is a lifestyle and business oriented flying club,” explains Lester Codog, Cirrus brand ambassador and CEO of FoilaFly.

Touch-sensitive controls inspire confidence in flying the Cirrus.

Last week, this writer  together with Ulysses Ang of Philippine Star and Patrick Tulfo of Business Mirror were invited to explore the beauty of the country from above the clouds. From the airport in Plaridel, Bulacan, our group of jetsetters  took off mid-morning and flew to the City of Smiles for a buffet lunch hosted by Bacolod City Vice Mayor Gerany Suatengco.

Prior to the establishment of the Aero Club, Codog is a trained and licensed pilot who  went through an extensive flight training of the Cirrus airplane in the United States. “Every member will have to undergo flight training for three months or 40 to 50 flying hours before the member is allowed to fly his own aircraft,” adds Codog. The Aero Club also offers services to those members who previously own Cirrus aircrafts. Some of these member services include: tie-downs, 24-hour fuel availability, and a guarded hangar for safety and security.

Codog allowed each of us to fly the Cirrus 22. At first, it was nerve wracking, considering that we were 10,500 feet in the air and the controls were touch sensitive. It was a totally different feeling to fly an airplane. Tulfo, a drone enthusiast, managed to land the Cirrus in Cebu, with the encouragement from our group and assistance from Codog.

As a member of the FoilaFly Aero Club, one gets access to great destinations around the country. In a matter of minutes, one  will be in scenic and postcard perfect locations such as Coron, Palawan; Boracay and Bohol, all in the comforts of  a  Cirrus aircraft. “Plans are underway for the purchase of two more Cirrus planes, a personalized SR22 with matching leather seats, alcantara dashboard, plus all the bells and whistles, Codog says. A Cirrus Vison Jet will be included in the purchase. The Cirrus SR 22 has a sticker price of P30 million. while the Cirrus SR 20 costs around P20m.
