Phoenix Philippines Foundation Inc.,  the corporate social responsibility arm of Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, remains committed to helping out different sectors of society.

Among its beneficiaries that continue to receive support is the Southern Philippines Medical Center in the city of Davao.

In 2012, the Phoenix Philippines Foundation started the rehabilitation of the children’s ward and  put in place books, toys, and a multi-media education system.

The foundation also installed air conditioning units for the room.

“Sick and ailing children are almost always helpless. Easing their pains and miseries and providing small comforts woul mean a lot for them, said Ben Sur, corporate affairs  manager of PPFI.

Dr. Leopoldo Vega, hospital director of SPMC, said that the stresses children experience when they are confined or frequent visits to the hospital wards is a problem hospital administrators find necessary to address.

“A normal scenario for a child involves playing, learning, and interacting. For this reason, we wanted to have a play corner in the pediatric ward of the hospital.” But public and foundation hospitals find it difficult to maintain or set up a play corner in the ward, primarily due to the cost, Vega said.

Up to this day, the foundation continues to maintain the children’s ward in SPMC with a goal of  bringing small comfort to patients and their guardians.

“We are open to opportunities where we can help. If we see that the beneficiaries are fit for our programs, we do our best to reach out and provide what we can,” Sur said.

The Phoenix Philippines Foundation began with an outreach activity in 2007 to reach out to the less fortunate of Davao City. Today, the foundation’s advocacies has grown to programs for education, environment, and health and safety and has reached a nationwide scope.
