China, Azkals face off

A FRIENDLY match is in the works between the Philippine Azkals national men’s football team and China’s national squad.

They are set to  confront Asia’s powerhouse China  on June 7, according to Philippine Football Federation general secretary Ed Gastanes.

PFF officials have been working on getting the friendly to materialize over the past month.

The encounter will take place in Guangzhou.

“Yes, I confirm the friendly between Men’s “A” teams of China PR and Philippines on June 7 at Guangzhou, China,” said Gastanes.

The encounter  will also serve as tune-up match for the Azkals before the team go to Tajikistan.

They will be in Tajikistan for the Asian Cup Jordan 2019 Qualifiers match.

Their clash with Tajikistan is part of the the Asian Cup third round qualification match and it is set on June 13 at the Pamir Stadium in Dushanbe.

The Philippines is riding on the momentum it generated in its 4-1 trashing of Nepal last March at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.

The Azkals are currently tied with Yemen but hold a narrow a two-point advantage on goal difference to take the pole position in Group F.
