Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTr) Undersecretary for Rail Cesar Chavez issues an apology for the chronic malfunctioning of the train operations of the Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3).

Chavez said, “humihingi kami ng paumanhin sa Kongreso na kinatawan ng mamamayan sa sambayanan sapagkat patuloy pa rin ang pagdiskaril at pagtirik ng tren sa MRT (we apologize to Congress that represents the people for the continuous glitches of the MRT trains).”

He made this remark during a Senate Public Services Committee hearing on Tuesday.

He also told the senators that DOTr is considering the possibility of putting the MRT-3 under the management of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA).

Former MRT General Manager Al Vitangcol showed up at the inquiry.

He said negotiations for the repairs of the MRT trains were consummated during the time of Former Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya.

As the hearing was ongoing in the Senate, MRT-3 encountered a technical problem for the nth time.

At 11:16 am on Tuesday, passengers were told to alight from the trains due to a technical problem.

This glitch occurred at the Quezon Avenue Station southbound lane.
