McDonald’s Chairman and Founder Dr. George T. Yang was recently conferred the degree of Doctor of Humanities honoris causa by his alma mater, De La Salle University. This is his second honorary doctorate degree after receiving one from Jose Rizal University in 2014. The conferment was in recognition of his invaluable contribution to the development of the country through job creation, and educational advocacy through the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

“This experience is truly humbling and I would like to share this achievement with the entire McDonald’s family. I remain committed to contributing what I can, for as long as I can, for the progress of our nation,” Yang says.

Through Yang’s leadership, McDonald’s Philippines has built a franchise of more 500 stores that has been excellently serving Filipinos since 1981. Recently, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) awarded the McDonald’s Restaurant Support Center, as well as 126 of its stores in NCR, with Certificates of Compliance for adhering to general labor standards, and occupational safety and health standards. The chain currently has over 50,000 regular employees nationwide, with plans to come up with 5,000 more employment opportunities this year as new stores are built.

Apart from offering customers with an overall great experience, Yang believes that at the heart of McDonald’s is making a difference, especially in the lives of children. Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) has programs since 1995 that support the need of children for shelter, education, and peaceful wellbeing.
