ASTC Subic Bay triathlon draws record field

A RECORD field is expected in the NTT ASTC Subic Bay International Triathlon which will fire off on April 29 and 30 at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

The event, with the hashtag #baliksubit2017, lured 996 entries as triathletes from all walks of life take the challenges in super sprint, sprint and standard distances in the country’s longest-running international triathlon competition.

Attention will now be focused on the nation’s aspirants to the 2017 Southeast Asian Games set to be hosted by Malaysia this August as 2015 Singapore edition gold medalists Nikko Huelgas and Claire Adorna with Kim Mangrobang, Fil-Am Kim Kilgroe, John Chicano, Jared Macalalad and Mark Hosana face off with the rivals from Singapore , Malaysia and Indonesia and other foreign crack entries from Japan, Australia, Korea, Macau, Portugal, Hong Kong , Syria and Chinese Taipei.

In the YOG contest of the event supported by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Finis, Century Tuna, Philippine Star, Gatorade, Standard Insurance, The Lighthouse Marina Resort, ACEA Subic Bay, Subictel, Foton, PTT, Moonbay Marina The Villas, Asian Center for Insulation, Subic Bay Traveler’s Hotel (official hotel), Subic Holiday Villas, Subic International Hotel and media partners Raceday Triathlon, SBR.ph, Trilife Magazine and AsiaTRI.com, the Philippines’ Wacky Baniqued, Joshua Ramos, Inaki Lorbes, Nicole Eijansantos, Karen Manayon and Lauren Plaza will have their hands full dealing with strong competitors from Hong Kong, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Singapore and Kazakhstan.

Invited to do the firing gun start and the giving of the awards are SBMA chairman Martin Diño, SBMA administrator Atty. Wilma Eisma, TRAP president Mon Marchan, ASTC President Justin Park and Philippine Paralympic Committee president Mike Barredo.
