R10 police drug war report out

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY—The regional police here on Tuesday released its quarterly report on the ongoing war on drugs in Region 10.

“In line with the directive of the PNP Chief PDG Ronald M. dela Rosa under Project Double Barrel, Police Regional Office 10 stepped up its anti-illegal drugs operations in the entire region,” Police Senior Supt. Lemuel Gonda, spokesperson of the regional police headquarters, said.

Gonda said that from Jan. 1 to March 31, police in the region conducted 608 anti-drug operations.

The police conducted 192 raids in Cagayan de Oro City, 105 in Iligan City, 103 in Bukidnon, 94 in Lanao del Norte, 77 in Misamis Oriental, 51 in Misamis Occidental, and six in Camiguin, Gonda said.

The operations resulted in 887 persons arrested by anti-drug authorities. Gonda said in Cagayan de Oro, 292 have been arrested, followed by 148 in Iligan City, 143 in Bukidnon, 141 in Lanao del Norte, 86 in Misamis Oriental, 71 in Misamis Occidental, and six in Camiguin.

Gonda said these police operations resulted in the confiscation of 1.8 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu and 2.9 kilos of dried marijuana leaves, with an estimated street value of P9.5 million in the entire region.

“A total of 931 cases were filed in court against the arrested persons. Meanwhile, 64,039 households were revisited and 8,449 new households visited by our police stations, as 88 self-confessed drug users and eight drug pushers have voluntarily surrendered,” Gonda added.

Regional Police Director Chief Supt. Agripino G. Javier commended the regional police personnel for their efforts in the anti-illegal drug operations, which will continue “until we have achieved the main purpose of clearing all drug-affected barangays in Northern Mindanao by arresting top drug personalities and dismantling drug syndicates who operate in the region,” he said.

Javier also expressed his appreciation for the community support by way of giving information, and the local government units for initiating community-based rehabilitation programs.
