The Cagayan de Oro and Lipa factories of Nestlé Philippines recently hosted 31 selected grade 12 students under a two-week K-12 Work Immersion Program called “Nesting Your Future at Nestlé.”

The program, launched in 2017 in partnership with the Department of Education, is part of a global initiative called Nestle Needs Youth, in which Nestlé enables students, called NESTers, to acquire exposure to the company’s operations and corporate values to help prepare them for the professional workplace.

Some 20 students from Gusa Regional Science High School in Cagayan de Oro were provided ample time and opportunity to familiarize themselves with operations at the Nestlé factory in the city and to gain first-hand experience working at the facility.

Students learn about the hard work it takes to produce a single cup of coffee

They were assigned to various departments including engineering, milks, coffee, quality assurance, and factory supply chain. The students also visited the Bukidnon Coffee Farm where they witnessed coffee farmers at work and how Nestlé supports farmers toward the production of high quality coffee beans. They saw first hand the amount of hard work and passion it takes both coffee farmers and the factory to produce a single cup of coffee.

Meanwhile, in Lipa City, a second batch of 11 NESTers from Mataas na Kahoy High School were provided comprehensive orientation on a wide range of Nestlé-related subjects in addition to actual work immersion in MILO production. They were briefed on safety practices, Nestlé Good Manufacturing Practices, the company’s mission, purpose, and values as well as the factory’s own vision and objectives, guiding each student to create his own personal mission, vision, and objectives in life as a roadmap to success.

They also learned about the factory’s waste water treatment operations, gaining an understanding of the importance of water conservation for future generations.
