United Airlines recently celebrated the 35th anniversary of its Manila-Guam service during a ceremony held at Manila Ninoy Aquino International Airport prior to departure of flight UA190 bound for Guam.

With nearly 43,000 Filipinos living in Guam, making up more than one-fourth of the island’s population, United remains committed to providing a convenient and seamless service between Manila and Guam.

Passengers on the anniversary flight UA190 were greeted at the gate by the United team with lei for each of the travelers alongside members of the Guam Visitors Bureau. The gate was decorated with balloons, posters and a United Airlines photo wall.

Passengers enjoyed a cocktail breakfast, cupcakes and a video presentation of Guam as a destination before boarding their flight.

Alison Espley, United’s managing director Japan and Asia, Sales, said, “This is a momentous occasion for United as we mark our 35th year of service between the Philippines and Guam. We sincerely thank our customers and business partners in the Philippines for their strong support and commitment over the last 35 years. Whether traveling for business or leisure, our customers can always count on us to connect them to the moments that matter most.”

United began its service to and from the Philippines in 1982 with four weekly direct flights from Guam with the Boeing 727 aircraft and in 1987, the service increased to seven weekly flights due to the route’s strong traffic demand. Today, the Boeing 737-700/800 flies the route.

Travelers who are eager to explore Hawaii can reach Honolulu from Manila conveniently through the Guam hub with one-stop daily flight. In addition, customers in the Philippines can enjoy convenient connections from Manila to a series of destinations in the mainland U.S. by way of Guam and Honolulu.

United has also joined forces with All Nippon Airways (ANA), United’s trans-Pacific Joint Venture partner, to provide an even greater choice of convenient destinations in the U.S. via Tokyo’s Haneda or Narita Airport. The Joint Venture between the two airlines enables one-stop connections to multiple cities in the U.S. including Chicago, Denver, Honolulu, Houston, New York/John F. Kennedy, New York/Newark, San Jose, Seattle and Washington, D.C.
