An ode to Californian spirit

Longchamp’s spring/summer 2019 collection features vibrant silhouettes inspired by ‘70s glamour that exude the distinct Californian spirit and audacious Parisian elegance.

Creative director Sophie Delafontaine paid tribute to life-long admired aesthetics of inimitable tastemakers Anita Pallenberg and Veruschka and seamlessly blended their style with that of the universal Longchamp woman.

Pieces from the latest collection are unexpected and effortless, evoking dreamy desert drives and late nights in L.A.— the kind of scenarios that call for airy feminine transparent animal print dresses on top of leather bikinis or fringed jackets worn over soft macramé dresses.

The mixed and contrasted layering makes the styles incomparable. Ikat becomes a signature motif throughout the collection, printed on the leather fringe and embroidered on delicate tulle fabrics.

Bringing out the silhouettes’ uniqueness and sensuality, brand new bag lines like the Amazone are adorned with stones, twisted with contrasting colorful materials, while the Cavalcade is envisioned in vivid colors and animal prints.

Both focus on the collection’s daringly refined spirit with the statement-making leather fringes electrifying all accessories as an homage to bold style icons.

The color palette, meanwhile, is influenced by the vibrancy of bright summer days. Rust-hued leathers are whipstitched with turquoise leather while black and white details lend an urban sense, a tribute of sorts to the fashion house’s decision to show its collection in New York City.

Forty looks were created in total, all with an emphasis on Longchamp’s historic use of leather—all powered by an emotional movie-like soundtrack bringing the collection into the future.
