Wear what you feel

Our teenage to early adulthood could be considered our fashion formative years. During this period we discover various styles, decide which suits our preference and personality, and display a part of ourselves through the clothes we wear.

More than art, fashion is a language, a self-expression. One’s outfit is more than a fabric that covers his body, it is who he is and what he feels, or as Miuccia Prada once said, “What you wear is how you present yourself to the world.”

Such is the theme of this year’s Ayala Malls’ Style Origin. Style Origin is an annual fashion event that showcases the latest trends in clothing and accessories from homegrown and global brands with outlets in Ayala Malls.

The fashion event, entitled “Emoticonic by Style Origin,” takes cue from the favorite form of expression of today’s youth: emoticons.

Youthful vibe was teeming during the fun fashion show at Greenbelt on Aug. 16. Fresh styles for toddlers, pre-teens, teens, and young adults were showcased during the first leg of Emoticonic by Style Origin.

A variety of casual wear, activewear, and semi-formal ensembles from brands including Anne Klein, Asics, Banana Republic, Cotton On, Kikay, Lacoste, Mango, Marc Jacobs, Cotton On Kids, Gingersnaps, Mothercare, Osh Kosh, Marks & Spencer, Miss Selfridge, Onitsuka Tiger, Puma, Religioso, Tommy Hilfiger, Springfield, Topman, Topshop, Warehouse, XOXO, and Zara were highlighted.

It featured styles currently sweeping young fashionistas today and trends we expect to hit the streets soon such as patches (on everything), millennial pink, printed tops, print on print, cut off denim shorts, ripped jeans, and slip dresses. Sneakers remain the footwear of choice, and several ‘70s trends such as bell bottom pants seem to be making a comeback this year.

Leading the fashion show were some of the trendsetters of this generation. LA Aguinaldo, Santino Rosales, Marco Suarez, Claudio Gutierrez, Mauritius Joseph Loosli, and Joshua Desequera presented various styles for men. While Adela Mae Marshall, Tricia Santos, Maureen Schrivers, Aryanna Epperson, and Jodilly Pendre showed how to have fun in chic ensembles.

The next Emoticonic by Style Origin is happening at TriNoma (Sept. 3), Solenad (Sept. 9), Alabang Town Center (Sept. 10), Market! Market! (Sept. 16), and Harbor Point (Sept. 17).
