Kenneth Cole’s ‘The Courageous Class’

Kenneth Cole, for the fourth consecutive season, embraces TheCourageous Class – those determined individuals who overcome life’s challenges to become the inspiring role models they were meant to be.

The Courageous Class is an idea borne of Kenneth Cole’s legacy as an aspirational, urban style brand with a fearless voice for social justice that empowers many to “Look Good, For Good.” The Courageous Class looks for inspiration through getting involved. They care about their communities and each other, and don’t let where they have come from, or the adversity they have faced, define their potential. The Courageous Class believes the real models are the role models.

Shot in Brooklyn, New York by Rob Kassabian, it features the work of celebrated stylist Tracey Nicholson, hair by Tamara McNaughton, and makeup by Alice Lane.

TK Wonder and Cipriana Quann are more than just identical twins making their mark in the fashion industry. TK is a singer-songwriter, and Cipriana is editor-in-chief and co-founder of the blog Urban Bush Babes, created to support, encourage, and highlight the multi-faceted lives of women of color.

Together they’re proving that beauty can go beyond aesthetics, celebrating differences as the norm, and “imperfections as perfections.” They’re using fashion in a greater purpose, combining style with substance and not being afraid to harness the industry to foster social awareness and female empowerment.

Levi, an artist, activist and storyteller, uses provocative portraiture and imagery to bring attention to (and raise funds for) human rights, environmental and social issues on a global scale.

Levi is particularly passionate about LGBT rights. An ex-Mormon who abandoned the church after feeling the church abandoned him when they forced many of his family to support Prop 8 – the proposition that eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry.

Kenneth Cole launches The Courageous Class campaign, featuring activists/role models such as LGBT rights activist Levi together with (inset from top) Sarah Ziff, Prince Ea, and identical twins TK Wonder and Cipriana Quann

Through social media, Levi has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for multiple charities, captivated the attention of 5.5M+ viewers with his recent campaign. Outside of social media, he focuses his creativity on expressing themes of vulnerability, sexuality, connection, and “group think.”

Sara Ziff is an American fashion model, filmmaker, and labor activist and an advocate for better working conditions in the modeling industry, which she has described as “an overlooked frontier of women’s rights and workers’ rights.”

Ziff directed Picture Me: A Model’s Diary that chronicled her life as a model.

In 2012, she formed the Model Alliance, a non-profit organization in New York City that advocates fair labor standards for models working in the American fashion industry. In 2013, under her leadership, the Model Alliance championed the Child Model Act in New York State, which reclassified models under 18 as child performers and extended them basic labor protections, including provisions for educational requirements, maximum working hours, and trust accounts.

In 2012, Sara also became involved with Save The Children, a non-governmental organization thatpromotes children’s rights, provides relief, and helps support children in developing countries. That same year, she also began campaigning for better working conditions for garment workers in Bangladesh.

Richard William, or Prince Ea as he’s known to over half a billion viewers on YouTube and Facebook, is a rapper, spoken word artist, and passionate environmentalist. His videos focus on the power of individual growth and the importance of sustainable lifestyles. By producing creative, inspirational and thought-provoking content, he has touched the hearts, minds, and souls of millions of people worldwide.

In 2008, he won Vibe Magazine’s Vibe Versus contest. In 2011, he performed with Ludacris, and, earlier this year, was featured in one of Oprah’s “Soulful Sunday” posts.

Derived from Sumerian mythology meaning “The Prince of the Earth” Prince Ea was born and raised in North St. Louis, one of the most dangerous communities in America. Contrasting the Ferguson racial tensions that made international news just a few short miles from his home, this artist continues to make waves with his message of spiritual unity.

Says Prince E,: “I am no stranger to the violence, drugs, and crime that cripple so many youth in this region. I graduated from University St Louis-Missouri with a degree in anthropology and am blessed to have the support of both my parents (who are still together). That made a big difference for me.”

Prince Ea, a full scholar, graduated magna cum laude. Today, when he’s not creating, he speaks at conferences and gives lectures to high school/university students nationwide, on the topics of self development, living passion, and the importance of being motivated and engaged in the classroom.

The Courageous Class launched for Fall 2015 with a diverse cast including Andreja Pejić, Rhymefest, Jon Rose, Topaz Page-Green, and Jamie Clarke continued for Spring 2016 with a cast including Mari Malek, Bryn Mooser, Shaun Ross, Caitlin Crosby, and Nasir Sobhani. Most recently, the Fall 2016 campaign featured Liya Kebede, Lauren Wasser, RJ Mitte, and Kenna.
