3-day Bike-For-Rescued Animals kicks off today

They were rescued from the streets, sick or dying or hit by a vehicle.

They were “prisoners” in pounds, locked in very small cages where they can hardly move and where they have been infected  with several illnesses. They were slowly dying as no medical treatment is given to dogs in pounds.

They were to be put to sleep in a kill pound because their former owners neglected them or “niligaw” (dumped intentionally on vacant lots by cruel owners) and they were forced to  look for food on the  streets.

As young as 10 days old,  they were to be put to sleep  too because their owner wanted to get rid of their mother  who was reported as  “aggressive.”  The truth was she always got pregnant and their owner  apparently saw them as additional expense, so he surrendered them to the pound.

These are just some of the  sad, horrible stories of the  67 rescued  dogs and cats in the custody of  Save Animals of  Love and Light (Save ALL).

While waiting for adopters for these beautiful furbabies, Save ALL needs funds to provide for their food, vitamins, yearly vaccination, and to continue maintaining  the rehabilitation home.

Virgilio “Gil” Bugaoisan, 47, former journalist and now media specialist, wants to help  these  poor souls and thus urged his  friends  to do something to help.

Today,  Gil and his six friends Seven kicked off  a three-day Manila-Masbate-Cebu-Bohol bike-for-a-cause from the Mall of Asia in Pasay City  in a bid to raise  funds  for the rescued animals.

Dubbed Padyak Para kay Bantay at Muning, Gil and  friends Renando Mallare Sy, 37, Lito Guardaquivil, 42, and  Max Ternora, Ryan Christopher Macalong, Patrick Duruin and Jonathan Olfato of Team Harkor/Ifit Pro Unlimited Cyclists left  at12 a.m.  for the  Manila-Masbate leg.

A send-off  was prepared by Jane Hughes, Gino Garbanzos and  Beth Victor of Anytime Fitness, Scape Macapagal at 10:30 p.m. last night.

Anytime Fitness also donated bottles of apple cider vinegar for the  rescued dogs to keep their heart healthy and to keep away ticks and fleas.

Tomorrow, Gil and his friends are expected to reach Masbate.

On Nov. 14, they will arrive in Cebu and bike to Bohol.

They will fly back to Manila after the charity ride, thanks to Congressman Karlo Nograles.

To donate, please contact Maricel Mondejar of Save ALL.

Have a great Sunday, everyone.

Namaste!
