According to a data from a digital international remittance service, money transfers to the Philippines during the week leading up to Mother’s Day increased by 13 percent last year.

OFWs celebrate Mother’s Day by sending money to their moms.  

The number highlighted how overseas Filipino workers show their love and appreciation for their mothers. 

In WorldRemit’s survey of its customers, 62 percent of those who send money said they send money to their moms in the Philippines. While majority or 82 percent of the total 2,384 respondents said sending money was their way of celebrating the occasion. 

Of those who send their moms money on Mother’s Day, 78 percent also give their mom a call, and 52 percent send her a gift.

“Mother’s Day is an important time for the 10 million Filipinos living and working abroad to show their moms that they’re thinking of them,” says Michael Liu, managing director for Asia-Pacific at WorldRemit.
