My Furry Bestie

This corner features pets of animal lovers every week. We hope new owners and those thinking of getting a pet will be encouraged to be responsible “furparents” through these features. We also hope more people will be moved to be kind to animals when they read about the great relationship that can be created between humans and animals.

My Furry Bestie - Katrina

KATRINA, an abandoned dog,  continues to bring an energy of pure love and joy to the home of owner Emer Alcantara.

Emer recalls how Katrina came into their lives:

“I heard a loud cry from a distant neighbor's house. The noise bothered me so I went out to check what it was.  I peeked through a window and saw two dogs crying out for help. They were left on their own for three days as the owners had moved out.”

“I asked my neighbor to help me get the dogs out. I fed them. I decided to adopt one of the dogs and named her Katrina, “ Emer adds.

Last year however, Emer says  Katrina developed a tumor.

“We had her checked and she underwent chemotherapy. She had four  (chemo) sessions. After four months, we had her checked again at the UP Lab and  we were so glad  to know she was free of the tumor,” Emer adds.

She is now  five (5) years old and Emer says she loves the attention from the whole family

Katrina sleeps with her family  and  her 14-year-old  shih tzu brother, Ian, who was given by Emer’s niece.

“She gives generous kisses and loves being carried as soon as she hears my voice at the door when I come home from work. We love her too much!” Emer says.

My Furry Bestie - Arfie

ARFIE  “came into our lives on Valentine's day last year when he was about two months old. He was a rescued dog who had been through a lot at such a young age, mostly neglect from his first family,” says his human sister Kirsten Hailey Ganitnit.

"Having him as my baby brother is the best feeling in the world", says Kirsten.

From day one onwards, Arfie and Kirsten were inseparable.

“This coming February 14 will mark his first year with us and what a year it has been for us as a family,” Kirsten says.
