Prolonged fever is a cause of worry for every parent. Is it really just fever or something worse, say dengue? The days of guessing are no more. Moms can now buy self-test screening kits as it becomes available online to be delivered right in the comfort of their homes.

PHILAB Holdings Corp., through its brand LABitDx, launched the Dengue NS1 Ag self-test screening kits now available at Lazada.

Darlene Marie B. Berberabe, Philab Holdings president, said the self-test kits are finally available for the retail market.

She said Philab decided to sell the product through  Lazada.com so that working moms can also have access to the product by simply going online or downloading the Lazada app and ordering the test kits from their mobile phones.

Philab’s dengue self-test screening kit is easy to use and provides results in 15 minutes

“For now, it is available online, but we hope to start delivering to drugstores nationwide so that everyone can have access to the self-test screening kits,” she added.

“Moms can now put their worries to rest, the Dengue self-test screening kits will help them determine if it’s time to bring their kids, who are suffering from fever, to the doctors to confirm the diseases,” Berberabe said.

“No more guessing at home. Parents can now act faster because the self-test screening kit provides a result in as fast as 15 minutes,” she said.

The kit is easy to use and comes at an affordable price. It comes with a lancet or finger pricker that draws out blood for testing. Results shown will be similar to the ones in a pregnancy kit where two lines indicate positive while one line indicates negative. Kids need not worry, as the whole process is relatively painless.

The screening kit can be used at the onset of fever. It is advised that for positive result and if symptoms persist especially with a negative result, the user should consult a doctor.

Data from the Department of Health showed that as of July 2016, children ages between five and 14 are most prone to Dengue, while mortality rate is highest among kids between 0 to five years old. As of October last year, there were 161,000 reported cases of Dengue.

“We hope to help curb the mortality rate of this disease with the screening kit technology. Time is important when dealing with a disease such as Dengue— a day of delayed administering of treatment can be fatal for the patient,” Berberabe explained.
