Two of the country’s hottest tourist destinations made it to this year’s list of “15 Best Islands of the World” of New York-based magazine Travel+Leisure.
Palawan ranked sixth with a score of 90.04. The island, which is a favorite among T+L readers, was voted number one in 2017 and 2013. It ceded the top spot to Java, Indonesia, a newcomer in the list, with a score of 95.28
Cebu returned to the magazine’s list this year after dropping in 2016, taking the eighth spot with a score of 89.10.
Boracay, which is currently in rehabilitation, failed to make the cut this year; it ranked third in 2017.
The complete list includes Java, Indonesia (95.28); Bali, Indonesia (94.06); Lombok, Indonesia (93.88); Maldives (90.48); Waiheke, New Zealand (90.21); Palawan, Philippines (90.04); Mauritius (90.00); Cebu, Philippines (89.10); Paros, Greece (88.76); Tasmania, Australia (88.70); Galapagos Islands, Ecuador (88.53); Cook Islands (88.52); Orkney Islands, Scotland (88.50); Maui, Hawaii (88.42); and Azores, Portugal (88.37).
The list is based on T+L readers’ ratings. “Readers rated islands according to their activities and sights, natural attractions and beaches, food, friendliness, and overall value,” said the magazine.
