The Rotary Club of Kamuning (RoCK) holds its annual youth development contest next month where solo or group winners among 3,500 participating elementary and high school students in Quezon City will take home up to P20,000 in cash prizes each.

RoCK President Leonard Lim thanked sponsors of the 23rd “Alay ng Rotary sa Araw ng Kabataan on Feb. 11 at the Amoranto Sports Stadium, for sharing RoCK’s desire to promote and uplift culture and the arts among young Filipinos.

“For 23 years now, our sponsors have supported our desire to encourage students to have love for country and strengthen character development by engaging in art and cultural activities,” Lim said.

As a result, sponsors have put up as high as P20,000, P15,000 and P10,000 for prizes for champion, 1st runner-up; and 2nd runner-up, respectively, in on-the-spot painting, vocal solo, chorale singing, interpretative dance, drum and lyre, and rondalla competitions.

The Rotary Alay project is undertaken in cooperation with the Rotary International District 3780, which comprises the whole of Quezon City; the Quezon City Schools, the Department of Education; and the Quezon City Government under Mayor Herbert Bautista, a past president of RoCK.

Apart from the Quezon City Government, other sponsors last year include the Wong Chu King Foundation (WCKF) and the Union Bank of the Philippines.

“We are inviting public elementary and high school students in Quezon City to take part in this event and showcase their talents and skills,” Lim said, adding that proceeds from the event will benefit Quezon City public school students and parents themselves.

Teachers may contact Philip Austria, project development officer of the Quezon City School Divisions Office, at 0995-5110148 and [email protected] to register.
