Albuera ABC prexy survives slay attempt

An Association of Barangay Chairman president in Albuera, Leyte survived an ambush as he was heading to work Monday morning.

Alberto Sumaljag, 60, and chairman of barangay Benolho in Albuera, sustained a gunshot wound on his shoulder.

He told authorities that an unidentified gunman waylaid him while he was traversing the road on his way to attend the weekly meeting at their municipal hall.

The incident happened around 8:20 a.m. at the vicinity of Brgy. Cambalading of Albuera, the police report said.

Sumaljag said the gunman, who wore a bonnet and was on board a gray-colored sedan, fired at him using an armalite rifle.

The Albuera Municipal Police Station is investigating the ambush. ​
