Manila to settle P230-million GSIS liabilities

Manila Mayor Francisco Domagoso has agreed to the proposal of state pension fund Government Service Insurance System to create a task force that will immediately resolve the outstanding premium liabilities of the city government which has so far reached P230 million.

“We owe it to our employees to speed up the reconciliation of their GSIS premium records so that they will enjoy an array of GSIS loan privileges and benefits they deserve as government employees,” Domagoso said.

For his part, GSIS chairman and concurrent officer-in-charge Rolando Ledesma Macasaet welcomed the decision of the city government.

“It is crucial to update and reconcile the records of some 9,000 affected CGO Manila employees to ensure they will receive the correct level of benefits upon their retirement or when they apply for a loan,” Macasaet said.

The unpaid obligations of the city government stemmed from the discrepancies in the records of social insurance contributions of their employees, which were remitted from 2012 to 2019.

The computed obligations included interest charges that had to be imposed for delays and non-remittances as required by law.

“We have high hopes that the seamless coordination between GSIS and the city government of Manila will finally resolve this long-standing problem for the mutual benefit of both parties,” Macasaet said.
