Government and private developers must ensure safe and durable housing units after 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Central Luzon and Metro Manila on Monday, the group Partido ng Bayan ang Bida said in a statement.

According to PBB official lawyer Imelda Cruz, it is important that every housing unit constructed by the government and private contractors must be safe and durable.

The temblor collapsed a four-story supermarket in Porac that killed at least three people, while two others died in nearby Lubao.

“It’s important to ensure the strength and stability of government housing units and high-rise condominiums alike to guarantee the safety of their residents and workers,” Cruz added.

PBB will push for decent and affordable housing for every Filipino through the coming May 13 elections since the country has a reported housing backlog of more than 6 million units.

“The government should also ensure strong and safe housing units to replace the ones wrecked by this quakes and others similar to it,” Cruz added.
