To strengthen its rehabilitation services for persons with disability, Navotas City entered into a partnership agreement to establish the San Lorenzo Ruiz Community-Based Rehabilitation Center at Barangay North Bay Boulevard South-Kaunlaran.

Mayor John Rey Tiangco on Tuesday signed the agreement with Rev. Fr. Franklin F. Beltran, OP, parish priest of San Lorenzo Ruiz and Companion Martyrs Parish, and Dr. Isaias P. Alipio Jr., president of Philippine Academy of Rehabilitation Medicine-Rehabilitation Advocacy Research and Education Foundation, Inc. (PARM-RARE).

Vice Mayor Clint Geronimo, Councilor Ethel Joy Arriola, and City Health Officer Dr. Christia S. Padolina, FPOGS also bore witness to the event.

Under the agreement, San Lorenzo Parish committed a portion of the church compound as temporary location for the community-based rehabilitation and physical therapy clinic for three years. The usufruct can be extended for another three years upon agreement of the parties involved.

Meanwhile, PARM-RARE vowed to donate basic rehabilitation equipment, as well as conduct trainings and provide technical support and manpower services in the use, maintenance and repair of said equipment for at least a year.

The foundation will conduct personnel trainings and seminars to appointed barangay health workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, among others.

In his speech, Tiangco emphasized the need to support and sustain the improvement and total well-being of Navoteños, especially those who are differently-abled.

“A rehabilitation clinic that specializes in the treatment and therapy of persons with disabilities will ensure that they are provided with ample resources and services to attain self-development and self-reliance,” said Tiangco.

The mayor noted the city will soon have a medical and wellness center at Brgy. San Jose that will also offer community-based rehabilitation and physical therapy.

In November 2018, the city officially opened the Navocare Community Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Clinic at Brgy. Tanza 1.

The clinic can accommodate musculoskeletal cases including frozen shoulder, shoulder impingement, fractures, and sprains and strains.

It can also provide therapy for neurological cases such as cardiovascular disease, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy.

The same services will also be offered at the San Lorenzo PT clinic.
