A fire hit the 50-year-old Mega Q-Mart along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue and Ermin Garcia Street in Cubao, Quezon City on Tuesday at 4:44 am.

Cornelio de Guzman, part-owner, and administrator of the private market said the fire could have started from a plugged phone charger that overheated in one of the stalls selling footwear and phone accessories.

The fire spread quickly to the dry goods section and administration office facing the Ramon Magsaysay High School in Cubao.

The fire reached the fourth alarm before being contained at 5:38 a.m.

Sr. Supt. Manuel M. Manuel of the Bureau of Fire Protection said the monsoon rains brought about by Tropical Storm “Henry” had helped douse the fire.

Authorities are still digging deeper into the cause of the blaze. No one was reported hurt.

According to De Guzman, the prized possessions of co-owner of Alvin Tan, including highly valuable turntables, amplifiers, speakers and long-playing albums, and Mega Q-Mart’s records and documents were all eaten up by the fire.
