QUEZON City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte on Thursday vowed to solidify support for President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs and corruption in the city.

Belmonte said she is renewing her commitment to back the Duterte administration in joining a volunteer group that helped catapult the former Davao City mayor to power in the 2016 elections.

She recently took an oath as new member of Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte-National Executive Coordinating Committee in Pasay City as a political adviser in the Quezon City chapter.

The vice mayor thanked the MRRD-NECC for making her a part of the organization.

“MRRD, for me, is a testament that the people can really choose their leaders, and these are from the grassroots,” she said.

“This was the organization that really worked hard for President Duterte. But if you notice who they are, they’re not personalities, they’re just regular men and women who probably have personal experiences and they felt it would help change their experiences for the better,” Belmonte added.

“I love that. This is a grassroots [cause]. It is for the grassroots, came from the grassroots, and expanded also because of the efforts of its grassroots leaders. They are all volunteers.”

She reaffirmed her support to the government’s advocacies against illegal drugs, corruption, criminality, insurgency and poverty, saying: “I will defend the Constitution.”
