THE San Juan City Government, in cooperation with three Junior Chamber International chapters in San Juan, will host a concert-for-a-cause for the victims of the Marawi siege on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Filoil Flying V Center.

Mayor Guia Gomez said the city government would be collaborating with JCI Pinaglabanan, JCI Katipuneros and JCI Dambana to raise funds for those affected by the long-standing conflict in Marawi City through the musical production “San Juan Para sa Marawi.”

“We are grateful that we have this benefit concert as a platform for San Juaneños to share their sympathy and blessings to our brothers and sisters in Marawi. The San Juaneños are very kind and accommodating in nature and an event like this is a great opportunity to further imbibe the spirit of bayanihan in the city,” Gomez said.

The concert will feature the musical competence of industry names like Basil Valdez, Celeste Legaspi, Ryan Cayabyab and The Company.

By purchasing a ticket for as low as P300, Gomez said concert goers would be able to enjoy quality entertainment, and help those needing reconstruction of their destroyed city.

Hundreds of armed extremists flying the black flag of the Islamic State movement occupied Marawi, the lakeshore capital of Lanao del Sur, on May 23.

More than 800 militants, government troops and civilians have since been killed in the conflict, which forced thousands to flee their homes in that erstwhile bustling city of Maranao culture.

President Rodrigo Duterte, who said P50 billion would not be enough to rebuild Marawi, has deployed thousands of troops and imposed martial law across the southern third of the country to deal with the crisis, while the military launched a US-backed air campaign against the militants.
