DAVAO CITY—Newly appointed city councilor Carmelo Clarion took oath Monday morning before Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to officially start his duty.

Clarion, who was the Barangay Captain of Barangay Mulig in Toril District, will replace Bernard Al-ag.

Al-ag was promoted to vice mayor after presidential son Paolo Duterte resigned from his post on December 25.

“I’d like to take some time and go around the 82 barangays of the 3rd district to know what they need, but for now I can see that there is a need of potable water,” he said.

Some areas in Toril have a low supply of potable water, especially for the elevated areas.

Duterte-Carpio said Clarion was chosen after the local council reached a consensus that “it will be better if we choose a barangay captain to address [issues at] the grass-roots level.”
