DAVAO CITY”•Mayor Sara Duterte vows to support Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go once he decides to join the senatorial race in the 2019 national elections.

Duterte said she is “more than willing” to support Go especially that he contributed a lot of things to her father, President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Of course!” Sara told the media in an interview. “We will be so proud if there will be a senator from Davao City.”

Mayor Duterte said Go is qualified for a public post, especially since “he already has a background in politics.”

“He has been with the President since the 1990s, so he has a deep experience in government service,” the mayor said.

Sara previously said she will be willing to support those who help her father’s administration, if they decide to run for the Senate.

She previously endorsed Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Margaux “Mocha” Uson, a well-known supporter of her father.

Go earlier said he has already dedicated his life to serving the President, who was mayor of Davao for over two decades.

However, photos of Go have been circulating on social media regarding his possible senatorial bid. Go even posted photos on his social media account to support the rumors.

A day later, a movement called “Ready, Set, Go” was launched to persuade Go to run for senator in the 2019 midterm elections.

The event was organized by the friends of Go and Cabinet members, and was held at the Ilustrado Restaurant in Intramuros, Manila.

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said President Duterte will support Go “to the hilt” if he decides to join the senatorial race in the 2019 midterm elections.

“This was what the President said and I quote verbatim: ‘I will support Bong Go to the hilt’,” Andanar said.
