BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—The National Anti-Poverty Commission recently gave P3 million in assistance for the upland farmers of Kayapa town, about 80km from here.

The check was handed by NAPC Secretary and lead convenor Noel Felongco to Kayapa Mayor Elizabeth Balasya through the signing of a memorandum of agreement.

Pedro Galate, tribal affairs assistant of the National Commission on Indigenous People, said P2 million will be used for the construction of the Organic Trading Center, which will benefit the organic farmers in the upland town.

He added that P1 million will be divided equally for the purchase of a vehicle and livelihood capital for the Kayapa Organic Farmers Association.

“This assistance will be a big help for our organic farmers because there is a very good potential of our municipality for organic farming but we still lack resources,” Galate said.

Kayapa is one of the major commercial and organic vegetable-producing towns in Nueva Vizcaya.

Their products are being sold through the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Terminal in Bambang town or directly to other buyers outside the province.
